Local Spotlight | Hoof and Hound

Hello Y'all!

This month I sat down with the owner and chef, of Hoof and Hound, Josh Shumate to learn more about the new burger restaurant in Hartsville.

No newbie to the restaurant game this French Culinary Institute graduate opened his first restaurant in Hartsville several years ago. The Black Creek Bistro is known for its elevated and upscale cuisine. So they decided to expand to a sister location to create a more casual experience without losing the quality that he and his team are known for providing.

I love the atmosphere and set up of Hoof and Hound. The bar area has original exposed brick walls and a corrugated metal bar, but steps away is a bright large eating area perfect for larger groups and families. Everywhere there is a logo of a dog with a sandwich in its mouth, and I had to ask about it. The design is based on Josh's dog Koba. I just found that to be such a fun little tidbit, maybe Eloise should be apart of my next rebranding? (Just kidding we are set for now.)

Josh wanted to bring a high quality of freshness, focusing on locally sourced ingredients into a burger/bar atmosphere. And Y'all you can tell. Everything I have had on the menu is to die for, and don't get me started on the sweet potato fries. They are addictive! His top picks for your first visit would be the Black and Blue Burger, Cuban (both featured in the photos below) along with their flatbreads.

They don't stop at just great food; they also have a great selection of craft beers and cocktails for you to try. (Happy Hour 4-6pm weekly.) Starting this Spring there will be live music outside on the pet-friendly patio area where you can enjoy local musicians, a craft drink and a delicious burger. Sounds like a perfect night out!

***Hoof and Hound official Grand Opening is set for St. Patrick's Day weekend! Find out more about what they have planned by following the Facebook event. ****
